1995 Chevy G30 Bluebird

After a few years of living and traveling in this bus, we have decided it is time to move on to a new project.

At its core, the bus is a 1995 Chevy G30 Bluebird Body. This means it can be registered as a G30 (Chevy 1 ton) van, so no tricky insurance or special license required. This also means registration and insurance fees are relatively cheap. The bus is 24 feet long.

Mechanically this bus is in immaculate condition, with just under 93k original miles. Within the past two years, we have gone through it top to bottom including a few very major items listed below. At this point, we are confident in saying that this bus is mechanically in nearly new condition – only with a classic Bluebird body!

  • Brand new 4L80 transmission installed by Recreation Works of Bayard New Mexico. Top quality shop. All transmission components are covered under an extensive transferable warranty. New cooler lines, hardware, etc. as well.
  • Full refresh of the fuel system, including injectors, pressure regulator, fuel pump and pickup, all fuel management sensors, fuel filter, and of course all related seals and gaskets
  • 6 brand new tires (replaced last year) and two full-size spares on rims. Fronts are heavy duty bus steerer tires, rears are Goodyear G670 RV tires. Makes for a smoother ride at speed.
  • New tie rod and ends (goes down the road straight and handles very well for a bus)
  • New exhaust system.
  • New brakes on all 4 corners, including pads, rotors, calipers, front hubs, rear wheel bearings and rear hub seals.
  • Thermostat and radiator hoses
  • Plugs, wires, cap, rotor
  • Oil pan and oil pump pickup
  • Sway bar links and bushings
  • Windshield wiper motor
  • Rear 2 ¼ hitch on the rear bumper – good for about 300 pounds (we used it to haul bicycles and a light motorcycle)

In terms of driveline, the bus has a Chevy 350 (5.7 L) throttle body injected V8 mated to a brand new 4L80 trans. This is a gas motor, and one of the most common in America at that. This means parts are easy to find, as are mechanics who are willing to work on it. Having spent the first bit of its life in the northeast, this bus does have some rust, but nothing structural. We are happy to provide detailed undercarriage photos on request.

In terms of gas mileage, we experienced anywhere between 7-9 mpg on its last cross country trip. Those West Texas winds are strong in spring! Heat works extremely well, but being a 95’ it is a pre- A/C bus. That being said, it does feature a vent window in the driver’s door, which keeps you nice and cool at highway speeds.

On to the interior.

When building this bus, our goal was to create a space for long-term living within a smaller bus suited for long term travel. As such, the interior features such luxuries as a king size Tempur-Pedic bed(with plenty of storage space underneath), a well-developed water system, and a large wood stove. Bed is included in the sale, and is in excellent shape. New in package sheets and pillowcases included as well. Standing room inside the bus is about 6’4’’.

The bus features a custom made couch between the bed and woodstove as pictured. We also installed a passenger seat complete with seatbelt. This seat folds down, and is bolted through the floor.

The bus also features live-edge countertops that were cut and processed just a few miles from where we lived back in Vermont.

We have spent both chilly winters in Vermont and warmer summers in New Mexico in total comfort in this bus. The bus also features a 12v-based solar setup with a 100 watt Renogy panel to a 175AH VMaxTanks SLR175 battery. This system runs our lights, water pump, vent fan, and charges our electronics via 12v outlets. Although 100 watts was plenty for us, the system has been wired to accommodate up to 400 watts of solar with the existing hookups. No inverter, but one could be easily added.

Water is handled through a 14 gallon tank to a 12v pump. Faucet includes an inline water heater that can be used with shore power (110 AC), as well as a shower head for outdoor showers. Tank fills through a stealth-mounted valve in the floor. There is a 6 gallon gray water tank as well as a floor drain. We will also include two 6 gallon auxiliary tanks and a foot-powered transfer pump to make off-grid water collection easier.

As we mentioned, the bus also features a full-sized wood stove. This stove can reliably create a 80 degree + temperature difference from outside, and had no problem keeping us warm through double digit negative temperatures in Vermont. The stove was re-sealed at the beginning of last season (winter 2021-22). Pipe, topper, and install kit all from tinywoodstove.com. The stove is anchored into the floor of the bus to ensure safety when traveling. Best of all, it features an ornate squirrel on both sides!

In terms of cooking, we use a two-burner Coleman camp stove that will be included. Stored in a little slot just under the main countertop. Also included is a mini fridge; this currently uses shore power (110 AC) only.

The bus is 99% complete, save for a few trims bits we never got to. We are of course happy to give a full run-down on this to interested folks.

This bus runs and drives exceedingly well, and has been a joy to live and travel in for the past few years. The bus is currently registered in Vermont through December 2022, and we have the transferable registration in hand. VT does not title vehicles 15 years or older, so this acts in lieu of a title in any state.

We are asking $10,000 or best offer, and are motivated to sell. All reasonable offers will be considered. Vermont calls once again, and it’s time for a new project.  Located in Silver City, New Mexico. We are about 3 hours outside of Tucson AZ and El Paso TX. 5 hours from Albuquerque NM and Phoenix AZ. Please reach out with any questions, or to schedule a viewing. Thanks in advance for your interest!

P.S

Along with the purchase of this bus comes the opportunity to rent the space it currently resides at, a lot in Park at Perk in Silver City. This is a community of like-minded bus and van dwellers just outside of city limits. Truly a great bunch of folks that we will miss dearly. Rent is month-to-month and extremely affordable, and all of the neighbors are excellent! Please let us know if this is of interest. We may also be able to steer you in the right direction for rental spaces in Albuquerque, Roswell, Taos, and Las Cruces NM.
