Description

Hi y’all!

My partner and I gutted and rehabbed a 2006 Chevy C5500 Starcraft bus during quarantine. We love this bus so much and the adventures she took us on. It was a hard decision to put her up for sale, but as we move back to Chicago for continued education, we know there is no room to store her there. Hence, why she is up for sale now. We want someone else to enjoy all that bus life has to offer. It was truly one of the best experiences of our lives.

We are located in Chicago and the bus is currently being stored at a family farm in Indiana.

Below is more information on Betty White The Bus, but if you want to actually see the build check it out on our Youtube channel. We tried to document as much as we could incase the time came to sell her. And here the time has come!

We bought this bus on the northside of Chicago from Sigler Auto Center. The bus was originally a 30 passenger shuttle bus used by University of Chicago and was regularly serviced by Sigler Auto Center. The bus was and still is in amazing shape. When we got it, we had a brand new transmission put in (by Sigler Auto Center), we also replaced the battery with a new one, and while in San Bernardino, CA we had the exhaust pipe redone so that it wouldn’t stick out the back. The bus is also registered as an RV with the State of Illinois.

Betty White has electricity and plumbing. We tried our best to keep the bus light in weight and use sustainable materials throughout the build (i.e., reclaimed wood from pallet boards that we’re stored inside and purchased from a business on fb marketplace).

Electricity: There are solar panels (Renogy – (4) 200 watt panels) on top and the charge is stored onto a Bluetti AC200P portable power station. There is also a Fantastic Vent Fan (Model 2250) installed in the back.

Plumbing: Small shower, deep kitchen sink, and water inlet/drainage on the driver side. There is a 100 gallon fresh water tank under the kitchen sink, and a 35 gallon grey water tank under the seat bench in the back. The composting toilet is an Airhead and has worked like a charm. It was completely cleaned and disinfected when we moved out.

Must mentions: We want to be as honest as possible in this ad. With that being said, a shower was installed, but never used because we weren’t confident in our shower plumbing and didn’t want to risk a leak in the walls and water damage lol. But if you are a better builder, I would say keep the materials, but double-check our plumbing in the shower wall. There is a water heater installed and it does work because we used it with the kitchen sink. The front driver area is cleaned, touched up, but was not finished. You can see more of it in the youtube videos. We ran out of time in our build and it wasn’t a necessary part. If you notice the walls/ceiling are somewhat grey, it’s because the first few tries with the woodstove we sucked and smoke stained the walls where there was caulk lmao it can easily be fixed with a fresh coat of white paint. The door in the back of the bus was sealed shut, but can be busted back open if wanted. Lastly, there is a small flip down board that we use as a projector screen… can be easily removed, but if you have a projector it was a nice option (projector not included) [The bus was originally going to be sold at $30k, but we reduced the price to $24k, to reflect these minor defects that someone else would probably want to change.]

Other features: Can fit a king size bed (bed not included!) Water heater, (6) security cameras (2 inside, 4 outside for safe driving/blind spots), keypad deadbolt, residential front door (full glass for safe driving), built-in metal ring by front door for clipping a dog leash or gear, full size fridge (Galanz), deep/large kitchen sink (thrifted from Habitat for Humanity) with drying rack above it for dishes, huge countertop, Olmo Alpic Mini Split 9000 btu (heat/cool), Grizzly Cubic Mini Wood Stove, Havlock wool insulation (floors, walls, and ceiling), built in pocket door in the front, sliding barn door for bathroom, LED lighting, hand-made insulated window covering for all windows, kitchen butcher block counter, built-in storage, a mini closet, built-in floor to ceiling cat scratch pole in the back, hardwood floors, a long green runner rug, and most of all love!
