1999 Bluebird Tcre2000 8.3 Mechanical
This is a 1999 Bluebird rear engine bus. It has a Cummins 8.3 mechanical with an Allison md3060 automatic transmission. The bus has roughly 150,000 miles and 2100 hours. I have gotten up to 65 mph on the freeway, but cruise between 55 and 60. The storage compartments are all one unit and they pass through. The bus has air brakes and an airride seat. The bus is currently registered in Vermont as an RV I have a transferable registration from Vermont. Heaters have been removed from the interior, but the coolant lines still exist if you wish to hook the defrost back up. The bus is rust free except for the interior floor, which had some rust under the old plywood. The rust was treated and painted with rust preventative paint. The holes were sealed with silicone and gorilla weatherproof tape. The bus rides well and drives smooth. It is also equipped with a transmission retarder. Most electrical has been gutted except for essential systems e.g headlights, indicators, wipers, brake lights. The electrical panel will need to be cleaned up. The bus is also equipped with a digital multifunction guage system. This system works good, but ever so often will give an erroneous reading. The tires are in good condition with plenty of tread left on them. I have installed a new lift pump on the engine, but an extension to the existing fuel line needs to be added to get the pump inlet properly tightened and leak free. The main problem with the bus is that the rear differential has a slow leak. Ive noticed about a drip per month. It appears to be leaking from the pinion seal. I have not had a mechanic look at this. The district the bus came from said they had fixed it before by tightening the nut. The front emergency hatch has broken plastic trim and I suspect that both of the hatches leak.
The bus was last in service in 2019 with a school district in the Los Angeles area. It was pulled out if service to repair an overheat warning issue. The issue was repaired, but the bus did not go back into service. I bought the bus in Oct 2021 from the school district.
