2003 30′ Blue Bird TC2000 Bus Conversion AKA Cecilia
Meet Cecilia. She’s a 2003 30’ Blue Bird modern bus conversion packing a powerful combo of style and off-grid capabilities. Packed into 150 sq ft of living space and a 45 sq ft “garage” are an assortment of aftermarket upgrades and high quality features such as custom cabinetry, life edge eucalyptus counter and table surfaces, copper accents, recessed LED track lighting on dimmers, and a whole lot of storage.
Under the doghouse is a Cummins 5.9L diesel with 4th & 5th gear overdrive and a MD3060 Allison transmission. This is one of the most sought after engine/transmission combos and a rare find in a midsize bus for it is typically found in full size buses. The snub-nose, short wheel base (same as a pickup truck’s) and the side and reverse cameras make for an incredible turning radius and ease of driving. Before becoming our tiny home on wheels, Cecilia was a fleet maintained vehicle within the Phoenix, AZ school system. The original bus was purchased from Tony at AAA Bus Sales (a true legend in the skoolie world) and has since been regularly serviced and maintained by them for the last three years. Complete with a 46 gallon freshwater tank, 600 watt solar panel, two 115Ah batteries, a Go Power 1500 watt inverter, and a Nature’s Head composting toilet, Cecilia can take you off-grid for one week or longer with proper water tank management. Don’t worry about roughing it too hard because the Dometic fridge, Dometic propane oven and stove, tankless propane water heater, galvanized steel tub & shower, 11” memory foam Tuft & Needle queen mattress will provide some of the creature comforts you’re accustomed to. The Sterling battery to battery charger, shore power, and generator round out the rest of your power needs.
A cozy custom dinette can fit 4 people and we’ve even squeezed 6 people if you’re feeling wild. It is mounted to a telescoping post and can drop down into bed mode utilizing the 4” memory foam cushions as a twin mattress making for a cozy guest bed. The astroturf roof top deck makes for a great place to watch the sun set, do yoga, and, if you’re one of the brave, sleep under the stars.
With the exception of the driver’s window, all original bus windows have been removed and replaced with welded sheet metal and sliding RV windows. In addition, the original walls and ceiling panels have been removed and filled with 2” professionally sprayed house grade closed-cell spray urethane insulation (r-13). Original bus door was removed and replaced with a custom built metal door with rolled edge to match door jam, 2 large double pane thermal tempered glass windows with custom brass handles both inside and outside. All of this and a white Tropicool exterior roof make for a more efficient temperature control experience.
Cecilia can take you anywhere on the road you’ve been dreaming of going and the Kawasaki KLR 250 stored in the back can take you further into the wild from there! We’ve lived full time in the bus for the last three years so we’re happy to teach you our systems and share what we’ve learned.
