Description

Our home away from home is a 2005 E350 Shuttle Bus with a 6.8L V10 gas engine and sitting at 117,013.7 original miles. We are second owners after the Town of Steamboat with a clean title. No crashes other than accidentally backing into a snowbank this winter! This bus has treated us well and we want to find someone that will love it as much as we do in its next chapter!

Welcome to Skoolie life! We have loved living on our bus full and part time and hope you will too! The bus is 23 ft long so she hangs over a bit on a standard spot, but hasn’t been an issue finding a spot to back in or pull through. With the larger than normal windows for a Skoolie and the lift kit, we get some AMAZING views while cooking or eating inside (even while parked next to a buddy!). With 400W of solar mounted on the roof, you will have plenty of juice to run all of the creature comforts and would be amazing if you are able to work remotely! The XL mirrors and windows have been reassuring while learning to drive a larger vehicle. After a little practice I have found the bus to be very user friendly and can handle anything from backcountry BLM roads to steep mountain passes!ย

A bit of backgroundโ€ฆ She started her life out in Colorado as a cutaway purchased from the factory by the town of Steamboat. She is 23 ft long so she hangs over a bit on a standard spot, but hasn’t been an issue finding a spot to back in or pull through! From the factory, the town adapted the rear to include the shuttle bus rear. After getting the new look, she was shipped off to have a Quigley 4×4 kit and 3โ€ lift installed. Once in service, she was lightly used shuttling retirees around town. We have immaculate records from the town and we have kept up with regular maintenance.

We found her while I was working at a woodshop in Boulder and after bringing her down the hill we got her mechanically sound by replacing spark plugs on all heads and getting the timing chain replaced. After this we got to work insulating all sides of the bus to a minimum of R7 in preparation to make it into a 4 season rig. Due to the extra insulation, people over 6โ€™ tall might need to watch their head, but even while stationary we tend to only be in the bus while driving, cooking, and sleeping. We fabricated a divider wall in back to mount the solar components along with our tools, a future auxiliary heater and outdoor equipment. (climbing gear can get stinky!) The dinette table is just shy of 5โ€™ long and has heavy duty leg locks so it doesnโ€™t move around while on the road. When folded down it creates a Full sized bed and people taller than 6โ€™ can sleep by tucking back into the windowsills!ย

After getting the bones in place, we used the professional woodworking tools at Boulder Furniture Arts to craft one of a kind countertops, center table, sink, window sills, along with the overhead cabinets. Everything was constructed with durability and weight in mind. We used pine and other lightweight materials for non-visible areas, while we used durable red oak on exteriors and visible, high traffic areas. Everything from the floorboards to the ceiling are sealed to keep the inevitable spills and messes easy to clean. Red oak is one of the most durable woods out there and very resistant to dents/scratches while being super easy to care for using standard wood oils. Major dents are easily treated by steaming and retreating the wood. We added our touch to the custom drawer faces, cabinet tops, and overhead storage areas by inlaying lapis stone to contrast against the oak and sealed with marine grade slow-cure epoxy to improve clarity and decrease the chance of yellowing over time.

We originally intended the small room behind the driver seat to become a shower/bathroom, but found we could double the sink head as an outdoor shower when needed. We have been using this as a โ€œdenโ€ for our dog and hanging space for extra gear/groceries, but it would be super easy to convert the existing walls into a drawer system or to remove it entirely to add a secondary bench seat. We are also in the process of changing our water system to prevent freezing lines and accommodate for a more 4 season build. The electrical system in the back had to be taken down for winterization and to preserve the batteries, but everything is included along with a step by step manual on how to reconnect it.

We have kept up with regular oil changes at 3,000 miles. Before moving out to the PNW, we got new tires and there is barely any wear on them. We also just got the replacement 3 burner and oven combo by CampLux replacement. It is mounted in the cabinet and just needs to be hooked up. We will be taking the fold down exterior table for sentimental reasons, but there is a spot when the wheelchair access doors open where you can add an exterior table to fold out of the bus and increase your exterior living space!

Unfortunately due to a family emergency, we are needing to part ways. We have truly enjoyed our time on the bus, but excited itโ€™ll be the foundation to make more memories with you!

  • Can throw in a our spare Dewalt jump box/spare battery pack/air compressor combo for +$200
    • This has gotten us or friends out of sticky situations and helped us avoid HUGE bills if we needed a tow or jump.

Things that come with an older bus:

  • AC needs to be recharged (hasnโ€™t been big enough of an issue for us)
  • Check engine light flickers on/off due to frayed wire. Had it checked out by 3 different mechanics and they can confirm it is not backfiring or having any other issues. (& have paperwork to back it up)
  • Our dream was to paint the exterior of the bus and we got everything waterproofed, but know how great it would look with a fresh coat of paint!
  • You will need to buy and install a heater to make it fully 4 seasons, but it does great for early/late season adventures above 32ยฐF as is!
